The Desert of Wheat details struggles of a first generation German American at the beginning on WWI. Set in the Pacific Northwest, the story follows trials and tribulations of a young wheat farmer who struggles with the arrival of Labor Unions and his romantic desires toward one of the rich farmer's daughters. With the outbreak of the war, he decides to display his patriotism by enlisting.
