A traditional hunter-gatherer or forager is a human being who lives an ancestrally derived lifestyle in which the majority or all of their food is obtained through the process of foraging. This means that they gather food from local naturally occurring sources, particularly edible wild plants, but also insects, fungi, honey, bird eggs, or anything else that is safe to eat, and/or by hunting game. Almost all omnivores engage in this behavior on a regular basis. There is a contrast between the more sedentary agricultural cultures and the hunter-gatherer communities. The agricultural societies are primarily dependent on the cultivation of crops and the breeding of domesticated animals for the production of food. However, the boundaries between the two modes of living are not entirely different on their own.
